The Long Story
Tecture created this large-scale installation piece generated by transforming over 40,000 pages of annual reports published by Alexandria Real Estate Equities, Inc. between 1997 and 2015, into more than 10,000 aggregated circles and flowing ribbons. The piece is the central artistic feature in the lobby of The Alexandria, a contemporary events space built by Alexandria Real Estate Equities to serve the life science and technology communities and showcase local art and artisans.

Alexandria develops unique, world-class science and technology campuses, cultivating clusters of scientific innovation across the country. When seen from space, these clusters take on elaborate interlocking shapes resembling neurons in the brain. Abstracting those forms, the composition is a flowing representation of the concept, utilizing paper as its medium.
