Scope: Design, Fabrication
The concept for this two part installation was derived from standard weaving techniques. It led to an exploration in material density, overlap, and patterning from which the final products emerged. Both pieces display a frenetic overlapping of material that serves as a visual barrier and a graphic element. The artwork was created from 5 tones of turquoise and gray yarn, tied into a pattern around nail points at the perimeter. The negative space reveals the phrase "be still"; fitting for a mediation space. The chosen color palette enhances the calming message. The freestanding partition, composed of several hundred feet of white ribbon, allows for visual privacy and intricate lighting and shadow.
